Nature Restoration

Various efforts are being made to restore a natural environment that has been lost in the past.

Since people began to live on the Ogasawara Islands in 1830, various types of alien species have been introduced to the islands, either on purpose or by accident. As a result, these islands are facing serious threats, including the extinction of endemic species and ecosystem disturbances.

What should be done

It is important to promote harmony between people and nature and to restore the original ecosystems of the Ogasawara Islands by minimizing the impact of alien species.

Various efforts have been made on the Ogasawara Islands, including conservation of endangered endemic species, the preventing the invasion of new alien species, and elimination of already introduced alien species that have had strong impacts on the ecosystems.
