Scientific Council

During the nomination process of the Ogasawara Islands for inscription on the World Heritage List, the Ogasawara Islands Natural World Heritage Nominated Property Scientific Council, consisting of academic experts, has been established to obtain advice necessary to facilitate proper management of the nominated property. The Kanto Regional Environment Office (Ministry of the Environment), Kanto Regional Forest Office (Forestry Agency), Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and Ogasawara Village act as management bodies (secretariat) of the council. The Scientific Council is composed of 12 academic experts with extensive knowledge on topics such as plants, animals, topography, geography, geology, and utilization of the Ogasawara Islands.
Within the Scientific Council, the Alien Species Meeting has been established. The meeting takes over the role of the Review Committee on the Promotion of Nature Restoration on the Ogasawara Islands, discussing measures against alien species and nature restoration.

Regional Liaison Committee

During the nomination process of the Ogasawara Islands for inscription on the World Heritage List, the Ogasawara Islands World Natural Heritage Nominated Property Regional Liaison Committee was established in November 2006 to liaise and coordinate within the related authorities for facilitating proper management of the nominated property.
The management bodies of the World Heritage Property; the Kanto Regional Environment Office (Ministry of the Environment), Kanto Regional Forest Office (Forestry Agency), Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and Ogasawara Village, act as a joint secretariat of the Committee which consists of the regional related parties who deal with the conservation and management of the Ogasawara Islands.
Also after the inscription on the World Heritage List, the Committee continues to make progress with the promotion of the management plan etc. for conservation and management of the Ogasawara Islands World Natural Heritage Property in accordance with advice from the Scientific Council.
